Year One Artwork

Year one have been creating some fantastic pieces of art over the last few weeks, focussing on the style of Helen Parry’s seasons (we created a ‘winter floor’) and using colourblocking to mix warm and cold colours. Don’t they look great!

Year One Careers Week

Year One had a fantastic time for careers week at the end of February. We had visits from cyber security experts, dental nurses, dance principals and vets to talk about their jobs and answer our questions. We also had a visit from the healthy bodies team to remind us how to stay healthy and strong. Our favourite activity of the week was when ‘Little Cities’ came and we pretended to do all of the jobs that we had been learning about, as well as some extras!

Year One Castles

This afternoon we have created a ‘caslte museum’ in the school hall to show everybody our fantastic designs! We’ve had a chance to look at each castle’s features, design and also had a little play. You should be very proud of your hark work Year One – they look fantastic!

The castles will be displayed around school after half term and then will be sent home before the Easter break.

Thank you parents and carers for your support with creating these wonderful models.

Squirrels Robots!

Last week, we learnt about robots and how to move (program) them! We worked in groups to see if we could move our ‘Beebot’ from the start line to the finish line. As a whole class, we managed to make it go through the lego tunnel. It was great fun. Then today, we created our own maze for the Beebot to navigate through using our algorithms – it was very exciting!

Kandinsky Pattern Printing

Today we made some repeated patterns using a card and string stamper. We threaded the string to make abstract lines and then used acrylic paint to transfer and repeat the pattern.

Squirrels Artwork – Kandinsky

In Year One, we have been studying the artwork of Kandinsky and the style that he used. We practised mixing colours and making patterns last week and then today we used charcoal, rubbers and wax crayons to make more marks and patterns in the style of Kandinsky. Don’t they look fantastic!

Year One D&T – A Home For Nibbles

Year One have been busy making their home for Nibbles to stay in when he visits us next half term. He’s known for chewing through pretty much everything so we hope these will be strong enough to keep him safe! Some children have even added a bed and tables and chairs inside to make him feel more cosy.

Year One Safety Week – How the Police Keep Us Safe

Year One had a visit from Sargeant Mantle today as part of our safety week. We asked some brilliant questions about how the police can keep us safe. We also had the opportunity to see an officer’s uniform and all the items that keep them safe whilst performing their duties.

Squirrels final forest school

Today, Squirrels class had their final forest school session with Mrs Toothill.

We were treated to some yummy hot chocolate and biscuits whilst listening to an autumn tale. We then made some magic wands and potions to get ready for Halloween!

Friday 10th October 2025

Reminder that today is World Mental Health Day, children are encouraged to wear something yellow in support of mental health in young minds. Also, after school today (3:15pm) there will be a bake sale held by school council located at the front of the school by the oak tree.
