PE and Sport are a very important part of our curriculum. We aim to offer a wide range of experiences so all pupils can participate in interschool and intraschool sporting events, enjoying physical activity. The academy currently holds the platinum status school games mark.
In line with the academy’s Christian ethos we aim to be inclusive in our offer and want all pupils to have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of sport. Sporting behaviour, effort and the contribution sport makes to a healthy lifestyle are valued highly.
Below is our review of how we used the Sports premium to support the continued development of PE and sport within the school. Our plan for next year will be published for the start of the Autumn term.
What is the Sports Premium?
The Government is providing funding of £150 million to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. Starting from September 2013, and currently still in place, ring-fenced funding – only to be spent on sport – will go directly to schools who will decide what is best for their children’s sport needs. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. We also want to encourage long term participation in sports, regardless of socioeconomic factors to ensure that our quality provision inspires and motivates health and fitness for all.
The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
Mereside C.E, Primary Academy provides a wide variety of physical activities for pupils, both during the school day and on an extracurricular basis.
We believe that PE should give all children the opportunity to learn and develop the transferable skills needed to participate in sport and physical activity. Experience in PE, sport and physical activities should enthuse, inspire and allow enjoyment resulting in a noticeable increase in self-confidence for each child. Through successful implementation, children should be allowed to develop independent learning, risk taking, problem solving and team building.
