At the end of Year 6 your child will transfer to secondary school. Parents have a choice of Secondary Schools and during the Autumn Term you will be sent details of the transfer scheme. This enables you to see the local secondary schools either during the day, or in the evening. You then have the opportunity to select the school you feel will offer the education you require for your child. Please note, that large pupil numbers can sometimes result in out of catchment area pupils failing to be allocated their first choice of secondary school.
Considerable time is spent on liaison between this school and other secondary schools to obtain the smoothest possible transfer for our children.

At Mereside, we work closely with the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin CAMHS Mental Health Support Team (MHST) to promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing across our school community.
The MHST works alongside school staff, children and families, offering a range of support to help children and young people understand and manage their emotions, develop coping strategies, build resilience and overcome challenges that may affect their wellbeing or learning.
One of the challenges that children may experience is transitioning from primary to secondary school. Moving to a new school, meeting new people, adapting to different routines and expectations, and leaving familiar adults and surroundings can create feelings of worry or uncertainty for some children.
At Mereside, we recognise that every child experiences transition differently. Our SENDCo, Mrs Bryant, works closely with Year 6 pupils and their families as they approach the end of their primary school journey. Where children may need additional emotional or wellbeing support, Mrs Bryant can work alongside the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) to help children understand and manage their worries, develop strategies to cope with change and feel more confident about the next stage of their education.
We also work closely with our feeder secondary schools, particularly in supporting pupils with SEND and those who may be more vulnerable to the challenges associated with transition. Where appropriate, additional transition opportunities and sessions can be arranged during the Summer 2 term. These may provide children with further opportunities to become familiar with their new environment, routines and key adults, helping to make the move to secondary school feel more manageable and positive.
Our aim is to ensure that children feel listened to, supported and prepared, with appropriate information and support shared between Mereside, families and their new secondary school so that each child can make the transition with confidence.
