Mental Health and Wellbeing

Many people struggle with their mental health at times and there is no shame in admitting these struggles. The sooner support is available, the better. At Mereside CofE Academy, we support students to have good mental health through our curriculum and support services. Supporting children and parents is key; we have a  Mental Health and Wellbeing team at Mereside, who are available for both adults and children.

Self-regulation is something we are all constantly working on, whether or not we are conscious of it. We all encounter situations that ‘test us’ from time to time. If we are able to recognise when we are becoming less regulated, we are able to do something about it and manage our feelings and emotions. This comes naturally for some, but for others it is a skill that needs to be taught and practiced.

The ZONES are designed to help children recognise when they are in different zones as well as learn how to use strategies to change or stay in the zone they are in.

Anxiety is a normal emotion that we all experience and can help to keep us safe, but sometimes it can get out of control and become a mental health problem.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a common emotion that we’ve likely all experienced at some point in our lives. Anxiety affects over 8 million people in the UK – that’s a little over 1 in 10 of us.

Anxiety also impacts large numbers of young people so the likelihood is that if not now, in the future you will experience or know someone who is experiencing anxiety.
