World Book Day 2026!

What a brilliant World Book Day we had at Mereside! The whole school came together to celebrate our love of stories, books and reading for pleasure.

The day began with everyone arriving in their cosy pyjamas, ready to snuggle up with a good book. Classrooms were filled with the sound of stories being shared as children enjoyed reading with friends and discovering new books.

One of the highlights of the day was our Teacher Swap, where teachers visited different classes to read their favourite stories. It was lovely for children to hear new voices and enjoy a wide range of books from across the school.

We also had a lot of laughs during our Masked Reader challenge, where children had to guess which member of staff was reading behind the disguise. It certainly caused plenty of excitement and some very funny guesses!

Throughout the day, children were thrilled to receive their World Book Day book vouchers and free books from the ‘Waters Stones Book Shop’ trolley – a great way to keep the reading going at home.

There was also extra excitement as Golden Tickets were hidden inside books around school. Lucky children who found one were able to claim special prizes!

To make the day even more special, we enjoyed very special author visits and fun competitions, inspiring everyone to keep reading, writing and sharing stories.

A huge well done to everyone at Mereside for making the day so special, and thank you to staff and pupils for bringing so much enthusiasm and joy to our celebration of reading.

What a fantastic way to celebrate World Book Day! 📖
