Reading Ambassadors

I’d like to introduce you to some of our 2025-2026 Mereside Reading Ambassadors!

You will see Diego, Lana, Hallie, Priya, Elsie and Lily wearing their badges and helping out regularly around school.  Our Reading Ambassadors look after our library, monitor book corners, help with maintaining book stock and help Mrs Waters with exciting events across the school year! Good work Reading Ambassadors!

Food bank Donations

Thank you to everyone who kindly donated items from the Foodbank shopping list for Christmas Jumper day.  The Food bank were blown away by the generous donations from our school. I was very proud to say Mereside Primary had donated so much to the Christmas appeal. Thank you to the 4 lovely ladies from year 5 who helped me pack the car.

Diwali Day!

12.12.25

We had lots of fun celebrating Diwali Day in school today!  We wore our best clothes to celebrate and started with a spring clean around the classroom.  We then made traditional sweets before creating our own Rangoli patterns.  We also made Diva lamps/lanterns and tried Mehndi henna on our hands.  We finished by eating our homemade sweets while watching fireworks on the big screen.  What a super day learning all about Diwali.

Christmas Dinner time!

Otters and Badgers class had a super Christmas Dinner day with crackers, jokes and songs!

First Aid Club

We have thoroughly enjoyed First Aid Club this half term!

We’ve learnt:

  • what to find in a first aid box and how to identify the items,
  • how to keep calm in an emergency and how to contact emergency services
  • Signs, symptoms & treatment for bleeding, fractures and conditions such as heart attack, stroke, seizures & anaphylaxis
  • How to perform CPR on an adult, child & baby
  • How to treat someone who is choking
  • Recovery position

Mereside Park Run Takeover!

On Sunday 9th November, we took over the Junior Park Run in Shrewsbury Quarry!  Mereside children turned up in force with trainers on and ready to run, and there were so many incredible runners that we ended up being the biggest Junior Park Run in the world that day with 234 runners!  We had a cake sale to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charity and we proudly raised £188.25!  Thank you to everyone for turning up and supporting the Park Run and a wonderful charity that morning.

A message from someone who works at Ronald McDonald House Charities says: “That is brilliant, what an amazing turnout you had, I am so pleased that it went well and we are so grateful for your donation that will make such a difference to our families and will provide 5 nights of free accommodation.”

Year 6 World Mental Health Day

On October 10th, children in Year 6 (and across the school) raised awareness for Young Minds by dressing in yellow. In class, we learnt about what Mental Health is, how to get help with our Mental Health and how our brain works.

Big Book Giveaway

On Wednesday 10th September, we had a Big Book Giveaway!  Every child in school had the opportunity to visit the hall where hundreds of books were laid out for viewing, reading and keeping.  Children then chose a book to take home and keep.  We have been lucky enough to fundraise enough funds to buy lots of new books for our school so it was lovely to be able to give away some of our pre-loved books to the children of Mereside.

We hope you all enjoy your new books at home!

If you would like any more books to keep, please visit our rainbow Book Swap Shed by reception and take whatever you like.
