Mereside have been awarded Platinum for our 2025-2026 School Games Kite Mark!

This is the highest grading possible and is our 3rd time receiving platinum status! A BIG thank you to everyone who have supported Physical Education over the course of the year, from attending sport clubs to representing the school at events and from engaging in PE lessons to giving new opportunities a go, we are delighted that the children’s engagement, enjoyment and successes in sports has been recognised!

Our School Games Kite Mark history:

Wow! What an evening 🤩 well done to all of our athletes taking part in the District Athletics event on the track at SCAT tonight.
Everyone did amazingly representing the school proudly and giving it their best efforts, which is all we can ask for ⭐️ we even had people join up this week to ensure Mereside has representatives for each event, which was very good of them!!

A special mention to Hattie and Jack for getting to the U10s 80m sprint finals for their gender and to Emily for reaching the U12s 80m girls final! 👏 Also, to Jake for finishing 3rd in the U12s 800m race (in which was a very competitive field!) 🥉 and to Stanley for winning the U12s long jump – a fantastic achievement (especially as he had never done it before!) 🥇🎉

Also a BIG thank you to the parents and carers for your support – lots of cheering for all of our competitors which was fantastic to see. As was seeing the children cheering each other on and waiting until the end to watch everyone’s events. We even had people coming along who weren’t taking part and just wanted to support their friends 🌟

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to our sports afternoons/morning and showed your support for the children as they took part with their running, throwing and jumping events earning points for their houses.

Thank you to those who took part in the hamper and well done to the winners  – we raised £131.50 across the 4 sessions!

Also a BIG well done and thank you to our year 6 sports captains who supported the sessions by demonstrating the events, scoring points and handing out stickers to the children.           You were all wonderful role models – great job!

Wow!! What a week we have had with sport events 🤩 🏏 ⚾️

Last Friday, we had our year 5/6 cricketers take part in the School Games cricket event at Shelton Cricket club. We were lucky enough to take 2 teams for this event due to the high interests shown through the after school cricket club. Both teams did brilliantly, with one of the teams going all the way to the final and winning the event.

Then, this week we had our year 5/6s take part in a School Games rounder events at Mary Webb secondary school. Again, played brilliantly and showed true togetherness. Reaching the final and winning the Shrewsbury stage, resulting in them going through to the county stage! Good luck next week!!

Lastly, today some of our Year 3 and 4s took part in the School Games Year 3/4 cricket event (again at Shelton) and I am delighted to share that they also won, having played some great cricket scoring lots of runs and getting lots of wickets!

Three events in one week and three winning teams! An amazing way to start the summer sports season. More importantly, all children taking part are having fun and showing the true Mereside spirit and following our Ready Respectful and Safe expectations! Today they were welcomed onto the stage as recognition of their achievements 👏 ⭐️

We still have the KS2 Girls only cricket event, a year 3/4 rounders event, a KS1 multi-skills event and the District Athletics event!

Well done to all children who took part in the Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon Challenge on Saturday 25th April at the West Mid Showground. After completing 12 miles in school leading up to the big day, they then completed the final 1.1miles in a fun style race amongst hundreds of children from other schools around the county. The sun was shining and all children had a great time completing their half marathon.
