Mereside Boys football 2024-2025 – Well done and thank you!

A few weeks ago, we received the news that our U10 boys, who had won the Shrewsbury final at the sports village, have received a bye in the county semi-final stage. Therefore, I am proud to share that our U10 boys are County finalists!! ⭐️ This means they have reached the county final two years in a row, which is a huge achievement and one we, as a school, are proud of 👏.

Unfortunately, the county finals are not taking place at Shrewsbury Town FC, like last year. Instead they are taking place at Shifnal Town FC. However, we aim to still make the occasion just as special for the boys and we ask for as many supporters to attend the final to cheer on the boys. Last year they sadly lost on penalties. This year we aim to win the final! 💪🤞

The final is on Saturday 10th May. Kick off time tbc! Please save the date.

In other news, Monday 7th April, sees the last session of after school boys football club. It has been another successful year of boys football. Well done to all boys who have taken part in the club and represented the school in boys football tournaments/fixtures over the year. I look forward to restarting in September for our new U9s, U10s and U11s! ⚽️

Mereside Girls Football 2024-2025 – Well done and thank you!

The other week, our U11 girls football team played their Shrewsbury County Plate final match and sadly lost 3-1, in what was a closely fought contest.

We are so proud of the girls achievement getting to the final and with their efforts across the whole season. It has been another successful year for our girls football.

Friday sees our last girls football club session for the season. Thank you to Mr Hole for running these sessions all year.

Well done to all girls who have taken part in the football club and represented the school in football fixtures this year 👏

We aim to run an open evening session in the summer for girls years 1-4 and hopefully we continue to get the numbers when the club restarts in September ⚽️

U11 Girls Regional Finals

On Wednesday 12th March, 2025, our U11 girls football team took part in the regional finals at West Brom Academy. This was after the success of the EFL Cup back in October. The girls were representing Shrewsbury Town and played against schools representing teams such as Wolves and Aston Villa. This was an incredible day for the girls, one they will look back on with pride.

Well done girls!

Shrewsbury Dodgeball Winners

Congratulations to our Year 5s, who won the Shrewsbury School Games Dodgeball competition! They then went on to represent Shrewsbury at the county finals. A great achievement and experience for them all.

U10 Boys County Shield Shrewsbury Winners

Whilst transfers are the talk of the country with transfer deadline day, the real action took place down at the sports village tonight.

To win the Shrewsbury stage of the County Cup last year was impressive, however to go and win it again, two years running, is even more impressive!!!! Congratulation Mereside U10s Boys who won the U10s County Shield (Shrewsbury stage) tonight🥇⚽️

An evening full of action, with it going to the final game in the group stage, where we won 4, drew 1 and lost 1, finishing second in our group. We then beat the winning team in the other group, who hadn’t conceded so far. We won 1-0 with an unreal bicycle kick from Jake – a goal that would be worthy of winning goal of the season in the Premier League 🔥

Then onto the final, a goal from Oakley from a goal kick was also a fantastic strike and put us into the lead! The opponents equalised, taking it to penalties where we won 3-2 on pens with Oakley scoring the winning penalty! 🎉

Overall, some great goals, penalties, assists, saves, tackles and blocks.

A fantastic achievement! Definitely feeling a proud coach tonight – the boys showed fight, determination and a ‘never give up’ and ‘bounce back’ mentality! 🤩
Onto the County semi-finals now ⚽️
